Why Is My Furnace in Lenoir City, TN, So Noisy?

With temperatures dropping as we move closer to winter in Lenoir City, TN, you’re probably relying more on your furnace. While the occasional click during ignition or a low hum during operation is normal, your furnace should run in relative silence. If your furnace is noisy, you should repairs right away.

Clicking

If your furnace clicks at the beginning of each cycle, there’s probably nothing to worry about. However, if the clicking persists and the furnace never starts or the clicking continues during operation, you need to schedule a furnace repair as soon as possible. Persistent clicking can point to several problems, ranging from a bad gas valve to a faulty ignition control board.

Banging or Popping

When the hot air coming from your furnace circulates through your ductwork, it’s normal for your ducts to pop as the heat expands. However, if this popping persists, which can also sound like banging, something is wrong with your furnace. Ongoing banging almost always indicates delayed gas ignition, which is unsafe to try to repair on your own.

Whistling

While whistling coming from your furnace is never normal, it doesn’t point to problems as severe as some of the others we’ve discussed. Typically, furnaces whistle when they’re dealing with restricted airflow.

Fortunately, the most common cause of restricted airflow is a clogged filter. Changing a filter is one of the few maintenance tasks that homeowners can safely perform on their own. However, if you’d rather not do it, we’d be happy to change your air filter for you.

If you’re tired of dealing with a noisy furnace, our team can diagnose the problem and make the necessary repairs. Call Pol’s Heating and Cooling, LLC today to schedule a furnace repair or to find out more about our other heating services.
