Why Your Heat Pump in Knoxville, TN, Is Stuck in Heating Mode
With summer temperatures rising, you need your heat pump to keep your Knoxville, TN, home cool and comfortable. If your heat pump makes your house hotter, it’s safe to assume that something is wrong. Learn more about some reasons for your heat pump being stuck in heating mode.
Incorrect Thermostat Setting
The simplest reason that your heat pump is stuck in heating mode is that you’ve set the thermostat incorrectly. Since heat pumps can heat and cool your home, it’s crucial to set the thermostat properly so the system knows which function you want it to perform. Ensure you’ve switched the thermostat to cooling mode and check the heat pump to make sure it’s producing cool air.
Dirty Air Filter
An air filter with too much dirt and debris can also keep your heat pump from cooling your home. When your heat pump can’t get enough air through the return vent in your house, the system overworks, which can result in warm air coming out of your vents. Change your filters at least once every three months. Do it more often if you notice them catching a lot of debris.
Blocked Outdoor Unit
If your thermostat is set correctly and the air filter is clean, walk outside to check your outdoor unit. Over time, leaves, twigs and other debris can gather around the base of the unit, preventing it from expelling warm air. Never try to check the inside of your heat pump. You can easily and safely clear debris from around its base, though.
If none of these solutions cause your heat pump to produce cool, refreshing air in your home, it’s time to bring in a professional. Call Pol’s Heating and Cooling, LLC for heat pump repair and all your other HVAC service needs.
